Stockholm Feb 10-14th 2010

Not far from Strasbourg is the ridiculously small Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport, however quite renowned for Ryanair: cheap tickets for broke students. 3 of that sort, including me, went to Stockholm that way in February 2010 for some amazing four days.

I have a soft spot for Nordic countries and Sweden means to me childhood memories of Astrid Lindgren books, red wooden houses and amazing baked things. Going there in this year's rough winter meant cold feet, a constant need of coffee and nights not spent out clubbing but trying to get warmer at the hostel. But eating baked things was included, as the cold made us crave for comfort food.
We visited the historic center, a beautiful place with many small houses and tiny paths between them, shops with curiosities and cafés in which we warmed up again. The red wooden house is from Skansen, the open air museum on another island, showing historic houses from every corner of Sweden which they rebuilt there. I would love to come back in the summer to see everything in green.
The historic center being an island among others, we walked a lot around on the shores and within the various districts. Other main sights were the Nordiska museet, a museum on Nordic history and art with many temporary art projects.

A new start?

I haven't done as much as I wanted with this Moscow blog, I haven't blogged at all from my stay in Moscow, summer 2009. This blog was created in a wave of pre-travel enthousiasm and firm belief I would actually write about Moscow and daytrips and whatever. From the moment I set my foot on Russian ground, I became lazy at the thought of writing, thinking it would be useless. Facebook is where I show my pictures anyway, although I'd like to write more about what people can see in them. Always sense that people are just watching and not reading any of the subtexts.

My biggest problem with blogging has always been the language. My two native languages are German and French. I love writing in German, but nobody would read it. On the other hand, friends and family would read French, the language I quite dislike and refuse to blog in. Using English will keep anyone from reading me and allow me the satisfaction of a default solution. And it give me practice.
Anyway, this is my new start at travel blogging, I might write a bit about previous trips and am very much looking forward to keeping it going.
